Cairnroam publishes practical guides about staying connected while traveling — eSIMs, international roaming and local SIM cards. This page explains how we research and write, so you can judge whether to trust what you read here.
Our mission
Help travelers arrive in a new country and get online quickly, affordably and without nasty surprises on the bill. Every guide is written to answer real questions travelers actually ask.
How we research
- Hands-on testing. Our writers buy and use eSIMs, prepaid SIMs and carrier day-passes themselves, on real trips, and report what actually happened — activation, speeds, coverage and cost.
- Primary sources. For rules and prices we go to the original source: carrier and eSIM-provider pages, telecom regulators, and official government or consular information — not to other blogs.
- Transparent numbers. We state prices in local currency and convert them so you can compare, and we date price-sensitive information because tariffs change.
Who writes for Cairnroam
Each language edition is written by a named author who travels and tests in the field. You can read about them here:
- Mara Whitlock — U.S. edition
- sasapy — Japanese edition
- ferno — German edition
- pengfei (鹏飞) — Simplified-Chinese edition
Accuracy, updates and corrections
Connectivity details date quickly. We review popular guides periodically and update prices, plans and rules when they change. If you spot something inaccurate or out of date, tell us via our contact form and we will review and correct it.
Independence from advertising and affiliates
Cairnroam earns money from display advertising and from affiliate commissions. To keep our advice honest:
- Our recommendations are based on testing and evidence, not on which partner pays the most.
- Advertisers and affiliate partners do not review or approve our articles before publication.
- We clearly mark affiliate relationships in our Affiliate Disclosure, and advertising is separate from editorial content.
