Privacy Policy

Last updated: 10 July 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information Cairnroam (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects when you visit cairnroam.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. Cairnroam is an independent publisher of travel-connectivity guides (eSIM, roaming and local SIM information) for international travelers.

Who we are

Cairnroam is an online publication reachable at cairnroam.com. For any privacy-related question you can contact us via our contact form.

Information we collect

We aim to collect as little personal data as possible. Depending on how you use the site, this may include:

  • Usage and analytics data — pages viewed, approximate location (country/region), device and browser type, referring site, and time on page. This is collected in aggregate through Google Analytics 4 (via Google Site Kit).
  • Cookies and similar technologies — small files stored by your browser that support analytics and advertising (see below).
  • Server logs — our hosting provider records standard technical data such as IP address and requested URLs for security and reliability.
  • Information you send us — if you email us, we receive your address and the content of your message.

We do not sell your personal information.

Advertising

We do not currently display third-party advertising on this site, and we do not use advertising cookies. If we introduce advertising in the future, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for your consent first.

Analytics — Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4, connected through Google Site Kit, to understand how visitors use the site so we can improve our guides. Analytics data is processed in aggregate and helps us see which articles are useful. You can prevent Google Analytics from using your data by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Affiliate links

Some links on Cairnroam are affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you, and the affiliate network may set a cookie to attribute the referral. See our Affiliate Disclosure for details.

Contact form

If you use our contact form, we collect the details you submit — your email address, an optional name, your subject and message — and, for security and abuse prevention, your IP address, browser user-agent and the time of submission. We use this solely to read and reply to your enquiry (legal basis: your consent and our legitimate interest in responding). Messages are delivered to our editorial mailbox and kept only as long as needed to handle your request and any follow-up. We do not use contact-form details for marketing.

Managing cookies

Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies through their settings. Blocking cookies may affect how some parts of the site and third-party services work.

Cookie consent (EEA, UK & Switzerland)

We use Google Consent Mode v2 together with a cookie banner. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, non-essential cookies — including Google Analytics — are set to denied by default and are only enabled after you choose “Accept all” in the banner. If you choose “Reject non-essential”, analytics stays disabled. Consent Mode also covers advertising storage, so the same choice would apply automatically if advertising is ever added.

You can withdraw or change your choice at any time by deleting the cairnroam_consent cookie in your browser (or clearing this site’s cookies); the banner will then appear again on your next visit.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal data:

  • EU/EEA/UK (GDPR/UK GDPR) — the right to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to processing, and to data portability. Where we rely on consent (for example, personalized advertising cookies), you can withdraw it at any time.
  • California (CCPA/CPRA) — the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us via our contact form.

Data retention

Analytics data is retained according to Google’s data-retention settings. Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to handle your request.

International transfers

Our service providers (such as Google) may process data in countries outside your own. These providers rely on recognized safeguards for international data transfers.

Children’s privacy

Cairnroam is intended for a general, adult travel audience and is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Third-party links

Our guides link to carriers, eSIM providers, regulators and other sites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties; please review their policies.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
